Couch Potatoes in Love: How to Be Romantic Without Leaving Your House

October 11, 2009

A good chunk of the country is broke right now, or at the very least, conserving their cash just in case.

So how do you keep the romance alive without blowing the bank on a night out every week?

The answer lies as close as your living room. Why go out when you can stay in? Why blow $30 on a movie and popcorn when you can just snuggle up on the couch, dial up a flick on DirectTV and nuke a bag of Orville’s finest?

(Besides, trying to find a babysitter, yanking on pantyhose when you’d rather be wearing sweatpants, then braving the restaurant crowds and snippy maitre d’s, can leave you so stressed out it would suck all the romance out of anybody’s big night.)

In the beginning, it might feel like a sacrifice to give up your big date night out, but there are some wonderful things to be gained by staying in. What’s more romantic, watching a movie in a room full of strangers? Or cuddling on the couch, just the two of you, in your favorite jammies?

And why stop there?

Play a board game, have a picnic in the back yard, get romantic in the guest room (or the kitchen!) instead of the same ‘ol, same ‘ol.

The truth is, you don’t need to spend a lot of cash to have a great date. All you really need is a little time together, and a desire to connect.
