Author Lisa Daily’s FAQ

Are any of the guys in your books based on real men?  And if so, where can I meet them?

Yes, I often imbue my male characters with personality traits of the guys I know and love. I was writing Daniel Boudreaux, the chef and love interest in Single-Minded, at the same exact time I was falling in love myself — and so Daniel shares a lot of the same characteristics as my sweetie.  That said, if you’re having a tough time meeting Mr. Right, feel free to checkout my dating advice books. 🙂

Are the Sarasota restaurants in Single-Minded real?

Some of them are real (Marina Jack’s has a great location, and they always manage to find their way into my books, some are my favorite restaurants that no longer exist (Sangria on Main St.) and some are completely made up restaurants I wish existed in real life (the gorgeous floating restaurant owned by Single-Minded leading man, Daniel Boudreaux.)

Do you really write at the beach?

Yep.  Best office on the planet. I use a keyboard with my iPad.  No internet, which really helps to keep me focused.  I love, love, love the beach and tend to get kind of antsy when I stay away for too long. Also, my fiction tends to be of the beach read variety, so actually writing them at the beach probably helps with that.  Also, weird author fun fact:  I tend to be more productive at the beach than in my home office.  I actually write about 1000 words per hour at the beach, versus about 600 per hour in my home office.

Is Fifteen Minutes of Shame about you?

Not as far as I know.  I am, however, a real-life TV dating expert.  You can see me every week on Daytime.  a nationally-syndicated morning TV show.

Is the Dreamgirl Perfume you mention in the book real?

Yes, although in real-life, it’s called Man-Magnet Parfum Glacé.  The perfume really was created for me based on information in my dating advice book, Stop Getting Dumped!  on studies at the University of Chicago that showed that men associate the scents of cinnamon and vanilla with love. Laura Davimes, aromatherapist and owner of Herban Avenues(Richmond, VA)  created the perfume for me, and I wear it almost every day.  (It’s my sweetie’s favorite.  You can order it here.  It comes in a little tin in an adorable red velvet bag for $19.95.  Really does work like catnip for men!

I have a great idea for a novel.  Will you write it and we can split the money?

No, but thanks for thinking of me.  I have too many of my own ideas floating around in my head and not enough time to write them.  If you think it’s a great idea, you should definitely write the book yourself!

I have written a novel.  Will you 1) give me a blurb? 2) help me find an agent? 3) help me get it published?

I’m always happy to give blurbs for work I love.  Please email me and we’ll talk.

I think the best way to find an agent is to look in the acknowledgments section of books in your genre that you love.  Make a list of your top five (or twenty) and research the heck out of them.  Then, polish up your manuscript and send out your pitch.  Other writers I know have met their agents at writer’s conferences. No matter what, be sure that your agent is on fire about your work, and has experience in your genre.

Good luck!
